Richardson Family Cemetery

South Mountain Road
Santa Paula, California
Santa Paula Twp., Ventura Co., California

The Richardson Famlly Cemetery is a private cemetery with no public access. If you wish to visit the cemetery, please contact me and I will relay your request on to the family. Clicking on the "South Mountain Road" link above will give you the general location of the cemetery but not a street address nor the exact location. Please respect the family's privacy.

I wish to thank the Richardson Family members for allowing me to Index their cemetery. I first visited the Richardson Family Cemetery during the annual gathering of the family to clean and decorate the graves. They also granted me access later to re-take some of the photos.

In the Notes, "(Obit)" refers to my "Fillmore, California Obituary Index 1916-1996," available at the Blanchard Community Library in Santa Paula, the Fillmore Library and the Fillmore Historical Society. It is also available online at There are probably additional obits in the Santa Paula newspapers. "(Obit-Star)" refers to their obit in the Ventura County Star newspaper.

The following is an abbreviated history of the cemetery:
"George Morton Richardson and Jenette Garrett Sims were married in November of 1857.... Crossing the river in Santa Paula they found what they were looking for at the base of South Mountain.... While George and the boys cleared the land, Jenette would bring lunch and water to a shady glen where they would eat and rest awhile. After some time it became her favorite place and at the time of her passing on June 20, 1877, her body was laid to rest under the biggest oak tree. The cemetery is now the final resting place for five generations of the family."
